My son Josh was addicted to heroin. I did not know or understand enough about his disease to help him. At his funeral services, as I looked around, my eyes were open to the young adults in attendance that seemed to be struggling with heroin addiction just as he had been. I knew in my heart that I needed to do something to help to make a difference. I began to learn as much as I could about this epidemic taking place all around me and destroying the lives of so many people. I knew that I had to try to do for others what I had not been able to do for my son. Because of Josh I have devoted my life to helping people in recovery from opioid use.
My oldest son has suffered the effects of heroin addiction for many years. His journey is not something that he or our family had ever dreamed it would be. It’s that journey that brought me to Josh Bressette Commit to Save a Life organization. I am proud that we are able to help people rebuild their futures and not be defined by their pasts.
